The Canis Foundation for Animal Care
For 10 years the Canis Foundation has been acting in the area of Warsaw (Poland)
and its suburbs to protect homeless animals, mainly cats. The need to help unwanted,
lost or abandoned animals motivated the founders to create this organisation,
especially to respond to the aggravating living conditions of animals in the city.
The Canis Foundation doesn't have an animal shelter. The animals under our care are all in our homes and foster homes. We are unable to take all the animals in need. We are unable to react to calls of people who found abandoned animals. However we try to encourage cat lovers to act themselves to save cats in need. We offer them every possible advice and help.
CANIS means... cats
Until recently in Poland there was only one organisation whose goal was to protect animals: The Society for the Protection of Animals (TOZ). It has a long and impressive history, because it was founded in 1864. It was the fourth such organisation in the world. Among the founders where the famous Polish novelists: Bolesław Prus, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Stefan Żeromski. But times have changed. Nowadays a single organisation is not enough to protect animals. So new societies and foundations have been established. It is good because legal animal protection proves of little effect - good regulations exist but they are hardly put into use.
Canis Foundation is a non-profit charitable organisation acting in Warsaw (Poland).
People working for the foundation are all volunteers and they do not receive any remuneration.
The foundation acts under a supervision of the Ministry of the Environment Protection.
Donations to the foundation are tax-deductible.

Our funds are used to finance the various methods of assisting animals.
First, we work with several vet clinics that treat and spay homeless animals.
We provide foster homes for ill cats or those who must recover after spaying surgery.
Through our adoption centres we look for responsible guardians and loving homes for those cats that can become pets.
In our adoption centres cats are dewormed, vaccinated and freed of flees. Truely feral cats are released back into their natural environment.
